Aston Villa are enjoying a strong start to their Premier League season and have also secured three consecutive wins in the Champions League group stage. The Villans have beaten Young Boys, Bayern Munich, and Bologna, with their most recent victory against Bologna on Tuesday night.
John McGinn opened the scoring for Villa with a free kick in the 55th minute, which skipped off the turf and found the far corner of the net. Nine minutes later, Jhon Duran extended Villa’s lead to 2-0 with a clever flick from Morgan Rogers’ delivery.
While most of Villa’s players impressed, Leon Bailey’s performance drew mixed reactions. Former Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor took to social media to express his disappointment, saying he wants to see “a lot more” from Bailey, who has struggled for form recently. Bailey was replaced by Jacob Ramsey after 60 minutes.
Media outlets had differing opinions on Bailey’s performance. The Birmingham Mail rated him 7 out of 10, praising his involvement in creating chances. However, Goal.com gave him a 4 out of 10, criticizing his lack of impact and poor decision-making during the match.
Aston Villa will return to Premier League action on Saturday, 26 October, when they host Bournemouth.
