Reasons Plymouth Argyle’s request for more Millwall tickets was declined

The Pilgrims will be looking for critical points in their fight against Championship relegation when they play at The Den on Saturday.

Plymouth Argyle have stated that their request for additional tickets for Saturday’s crucial Championship encounter against Millwall at The Den has been denied by the south London club.

On Friday morning, the Pilgrims announced on social media that they had sold out of their 2,000-ticket allocation in the North Stand, which has a capacity of 4,000 over two decks.

Then, last night, Argyle announced, “After communication with Millwall, we can confirm our request for additional tickets for this fixture has been declined.” We will still have 2,000 Green Army members in the capital this weekend.”

Argyle are in a relegation race heading into their penultimate match of the season at The Den, so fans are understandably interested in attending.

Millwall, who clinched their Championship survival with a 1-0 away win over Sunderland last Saturday, will play their final home game of the season against the Pilgrims. They have won four of their previous five games at The Den, with the exception of a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion.

The last time Argyle played a league game away at Millwall was in April 2006, and it ended in a 1-1 Championship tie as Vincent Pericard’s early goal was cancelled out by Marvin Williams’ first-half equaliser.

The Pilgrims did play at The Den in a League Cup tie in August 2018, taking the lead twice through Jamie Ness and Freddie Ladapo before falling 3-2.

Argyle has averaged more than 1,800 spectators per away game in the Championship this season, which is incredible given the great distances the Green Army has had to travel.

There have been 2,000-plus attendance eight times, the most recent being 2,587 at Stoke City on Saturday, with only two occasions where there were fewer than 1,000 away Argyle fans. They were for the matches at Middlesbrough (836) and Ipswich Town (828).
