Stoke City and Huddersfield Town Confirm £5.7m Transfer Agreement

In 2016, he left Egyptian powerhouse Al-Ahly to join Stoke City in the Premier League. Two years later, he moved to Huddersfield Town, another top-tier team.

Sobhi’s tenure in English football was mainly forgettable, except the one exceptional event at The Bet365 Stadium. The transaction will haunt Huddersfield Town fans, but Stoke will feel that they played a blinder in order to get the Egyptian international off their books.

After Sobhi spent two years at the club, the Potters managed to turn a profit on him, which is still unbelievable.
For Ramadan, Huddersfield Town is spending £5.7 million. Sobhi was a great asset to Stoke City.

In the summer of 2016, Stoke paid up to £5 million to recruit the then-19-year-old, who was thought to have a bright future in the game because of his age and exploits in Egypt.

He made just eight Premier League starts in his debut season, playing 19 first-team games for Stoke, and contributing one assist in a victory over Crystal Palace.

It was thought to be a fair enough first year considering his age and inexperience in England, but he needed to prove more to make the Potters pay the sum they had for him.

Playing 27 games in all competitions and scoring three goals, notably two in the league against West Brom and Huddersfield within three days of one another, he did show some improvement in his second and ultimately final season at the club.

The cheap Ipswich Town contract is still helping Stoke City: See

As a player in the Potteries, Jon Walters was a cult icon; today, he serves in a quite different role at the club.

Even though playing in the second division could have been a good way for Sobhi to grow, he was unable to keep the Potters from being relegated to the Championship, and he ultimately signed a contract with Huddersfield to join the Premier League.

Despite his lack of effect there, Stoke had turned a profit because the Terriers paid £5.7 million to recruit him, and his stint in Yorkshire was a complete bust.

Sobhi played 75 minutes of football in just four substitute appearances before departing the team in January and going on loan to Egypt with Al-Ahly.

Before being traded to Pyramids FC in 2020, he extended his contract with Ah Ahly for the 2019–20 season after Huddersfield was demoted at the end of the previous campaign.

Stoke would have been laughing uncontrollably because, despite spending £5.7 million for Sobhi, he only played 75 minutes of football—one of the worst business decisions in Huddersfield history.
The month of Ramadan Sobhi found English football difficult to adapt to.

Sobhi has had a stellar record since joining Pyramids FC in Egypt, amassing 34 goals and dishing out 24 assists in 130 games, but he was unable to duplicate that in England.

In retrospect, it’s possible that the move to England was premature and that he could have established himself in the English game and developed into a top-tier player if he had joined Stoke in the Championship.

After spending comparatively large sums of money on players like Sobhi, it is not surprising that Huddersfield ended last in the league with only 16 points and three victories. They will undoubtedly regret their choice to buy him in the summer of 2018.

It appeared like Stoke had a player who may develop into a valuable long-term alternative, but his choice to return to the Premier League with Huddersfield turned out to be a terrible one.

Even while most English football fans may not be familiar with him, Huddersfield supporters will tremble at the mention of his name, and it turned out to be such a poor deal that it still defies logic.
