Ruben Selles speaks on takeover and plans for next season – ” We’ve given everything and now we need that final push “

Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has confessed that setting expectations for next season before the club’s acquisition is completed is ‘unrealistic’.

The Royals manager, like everyone else at the club, is still waiting for an agreement to be reached with Dai Yongge to sell the team.

“I’m not going to put anything on next season, the club is still in a moment of uncertainty so to start talking about promotion where we are with the club is a bit unrealistic,” Selles told the team’s supporters.

“Because there is no news, and we don’t know what will happen next season or what budget we will have.

“We don’t know anything about such things, so I’m not going to start talking about things we probably won’t be able to achieve unless we transform the club’s circumstances.

“Nobody deserves another season like we’ve had, and right now we’re looking at the takeover process, hoping to find a decent breaking point to move forward with some peace of mind.

“The transfer embargo remains in place, thus we will be unable to purchase any players. The fact is that we need to address a number of issues before we can talk about major accomplishments.”

Selles also stated that he wants the takeover process to be completed as soon as possible so that he can start planning for the next campaign.

He went on to say, “If everything goes well, we should continue developing and seeing how far we can go, rather than just starting to talk about other topics.

“There needs to be a time in the next two months when we can get down and discuss the plans for next season.

“We can’t open the door without knowing if we’ll be paid or what conditions we’ll be working under.

“We need to give a little bit of time for the new owners to come and also need to know the longer it is taking, the less ready we will be for the pre-season and less ready for the season because we don’t have any guidance.”
