WR Chase Claypool, formerly of the Bears, signs with the Bills.

The article “Former Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool signs with the Bills” first aired on NBC Sports Chicago.

The Bills announced on Friday that Chase Claypool, a former wide receiver for the Bears, had inked a one-year contract.

In the last few seasons, Claypool, 25, only participated in two half-seasons with the Bears. In order to acquire him, the Bears first sent the Steelers a second-round pick during the NFL trading deadline in 2022. After joining the team, he caught 14 receptions for 140 yards in seven games.

The team chose to see Claypool’s rookie campaign in Chicago as a learning experience for the wide receiver. Arriving to the team without a playbook and out of alignment with quarterback Justin Fields, he gave optimism of his second season.

From that point on, nothing got better. With just three games under his belt, he caught four catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. The Bears urged Claypool to stay away from the club so they could find him a new home early in the season, as he swiftly demonstrated his detrimental impact in the locker room.

The Bears sent Claypool to the Dolphins in October 2023 in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-round pick. In Ryan Poles’ tenure as general manager, Claypool stands for an uncommon setback.

With the Dolphins, Claypool appeared in nine games but did not contribute much on the field. This offseason, there were rumors that Claypool may play in the Canadian Football League after returning home.
