Former England player Carlton Palmer thinks Birmingham City would make an interesting addition in Alex Neil, the former manager of Stoke City.
This occurs when the Blues search for a new manager following the announcement that Tony Mowbray will not be rejoining the team for the upcoming campaign.
After becoming the team’s new manager in January, Mowbray managed to win four of his first eight games. However, in February, he was forced to leave the team briefly because of health issues.
Although it was anticipated that he would return at the beginning of the following season, Mowbray has stated that he will not be doing so in order to put his family and health first.
Birmingham, having placed third from bottom in the 2023–24 season, has begun the process of searching for a new manager in the hopes that he or she can take the team out of League One the following season.

Birmingham has reportedly had “initial talks” with Neil, the former manager of Stoke City and Sunderland, according to John Percy of the Telegraph.
He claims that because Neil has achieved promotions with Norwich, Sunderland, and Scottish team Hamilton, the Blues view him as a viable possibility.
Although Percy notes that the appointment process is still in progress, it’s possible that they have identified further applicants they’d like to meet with.
Neil hasn’t had a job since Stoke City fired him in December due to his subpar season opener.

“It has been reported that Birmingham City have held initial talks with Alex Neil, the former manager of Preston, Sunderland, and Stoke City,” Palmer exclusively informed Football League World.
“Alex has received three promotions already, and Birmingham City made a huge mistake this season by firing John Eustace, which ultimately cost them as Blackburn continued to play at the top and Birmingham was down.
If Tony Mowbray had been in charge, I don’t think it would have happened, but sadly, Tony has had health issues and will not be rejoining Birmingham City.
“Neil was having success at Sunderland and was doing well. He decided to jump ship and go to Stoke, but things didn’t work out there, and he was let go.”
“But even though it didn’t work out at one football club, it doesn’t mean it won’t work at Birmingham City. I am a huge fan of Alex Neil; he is very assured tactically.
“I think Alex Neil has shown that he can get teams promoted, and Birmingham City will be looking to get back into the Championship at the first opportunity, given the right tools.”
Therefore, I do believe that this would be a really exciting appointment. He played a significant role with Pritchard as well. Pritchard, who was recruited in by Mowbray from Sunderland, has not been well since coming here, although under Mowbray and Alex Neil, he was quite successful.
He will therefore be among the players who are thrilled to see Alex Neil at the football team.
Birmingham City would be well served by the employment of Alex Neil.

Although many Birmingham City fans may not think Alex Neil is the best choice, it is understandable why the club’s management is considering the Scot.
In his managerial career, Neil has been quite successful, receiving promotions from Hamilton, Norwich City, and Sunderland.
Preston and Stoke were the two teams he failed to get promoted from, but he once more performed admirably for the Lilywhites.
His stay with the Potters may turn off fans of him because things didn’t work out well during his tenure at the Bet365 Stadium. Beyond that, though, he is a manager who understands how to advance—and, more crucially, how to do so outside of League One, which is precisely what Birmingham needs for the upcoming campaign.
