West Ham consider familiar face as surprise Lopetegui alternative, he fits the profile perfectly

West Ham could turn to a familiar face should they decide to part ways with Julen Lopetegui, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.

Lopetegui is under immense pressure just months after replacing David Moyes at London Stadium, having won only three of his first 10 games in all competitions.

Although the five losses have come against five of last season’s top-six Premier League teams, the nature of the defeats and the perceived lack of identity and style of play have raised questions about Lopetegui’s future.

The recent 4-1 defeat to London rivals Tottenham has intensified doubts about his ability to continue the success Moyes achieved over the last four-and-a-half years. As a result, names of potential successors are beginning to circulate.

While there is no indication that the club is preparing to make a managerial change, the Guardian reported this week that the former Real Madrid boss is not currently in danger of being sacked, despite the disappointing start. However, it would be wise for the club to have potential backup options ready if they decide to make a change.
