According to Top man, Luton Town is both close by and far away

Those players who are watching their contracts expire during this time of the year may find themselves in an awkward situation.

Many people are holding out hope that a new agreement will be reached, but for others, this happens to be the moment when they come to terms with the fact that their time spent at a club has come to an end.

Yesterday, Luton Town FC announced its retained list and, unhappily there were some names on the list that now know their time at Kenilworth Road is all but done.

In a series of pieces, I want to address the more known names on excluded from that list, starting with Dan Potts.

Dan Potts will be remembered fondly for all time, as he was the player who scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 2022/2023 English Football League Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium, which was played against Coventry City. His name will be etched in the annals of history.

For Dan it was a memorable personal triumph having joined the Hatters, from West Ham, back in 2015 when Luton Town were a League Two club.

During his time with the Hatters, Dan was able to see firsthand our spectacular ascent up the league ladder. He would have been hoping to make the most of his time with Luton Town by participating in our first season in the Premier League, but unfortunately, this was not to be.

Potts suffered an injury prior to the beginning of the season, and just when he was healthy enough to take a spot on the bench, another injury caused his season to end without him making a single appearance in the Premier League. This demonstrates how cruel this game of ours can be.

Now it is confirmed that Dan has been released, it will be interesting to see where the player who made close to 200 legue outings for the club will go.

I have no doubt that there is a team out there that is willing to take a chance on an experienced defender who is still only 30 years old, despite the fact that they will miss the entire 2023/2024 season on the field.

Despite the fact that his time with Luton Town has come to an end, it is encouraging to see posts on social media that acknowledge the level of affection that he has had from the fans:

We will keep a close check on what the future holds for Dan here at Vital Luton Town, and we will also report back on the situation when it becomes required.
