Aston Villa drew with Bournemouth for the third time in their previous four Premier League games after giving up an equalizer in the 96th minute.
When Villa’s pressure finally paid off in the 77th minute, Ross Barkley, who had started the second half in place of Amadou Onana, broke the tie. Evanilson, a high-profile acquisition for Bournemouth, then headed in from Marcus Tavernier’s free kick after coming off the bench to tie the score.
Villa missed the opportunity to win their sixth league game, but they are currently undefeated in 11 games across all competitions.
After a flawless start, Aston Villa received a £9.4 million Champions League bonus.
Despite a contentious departure, the Aston Villa acquisition who made a lasting impression
After the ball had barely gone out of play before Ollie Watkins grabbed it and played it to the Villa captain, who curled into the far corner, John McGinn believed he had opened the scoring in the 28th minute, but VAR disallowed it.
Villa worked a set-piece routine from a dangerous area in the 23rd minute, which gave Onana the best chance to score after Watkins and Morgan Rogers both missed good chances in the first ten minutes of play. Mark Travers pushed Lucas Digne’s header back across goal around the post after he flicked the ball towards the Belgian at the back post.
After McGinn’s goal was disallowed by VAR and before halftime, Villa didn’t cause any problems for Bournemouth. Morgan Rogers, who played on the sidelines of the game, was replaced by Jhon Duran at the hour mark. The next save from Travers was forced by Pau Torres, as the Bournemouth goalkeeper tipped the center-back’s attempt over the crossbar.
When Watkins headed toward goal from Matty Cash’s cross, Travers was there to save Villa once more. Watkins found Duran with space inside the box, and he attempted to put the home team ahead in the 73rd minute, but his effort went wide of the post.
Both Ian Maatsen and Leon Bailey entered the game in the 71st minute, and seven minutes later they combined to give Villa the lead. Bailey managed to knock the ball down after Maatsen stood it up at the back post, allowing Barkley to push past Travers.
After falling behind, Bournemouth was upset that they hadn’t been given at least one penalty. Prior to the ball landing on Bailey’s arm from a cross, Antoine Semenyo was booked for diving while under pressure from Matty Cash. Referee Chris Kavanagh’s on-field ruling was upheld by VAR.

However, with six more minutes added, the Cherries had ample time to tie the score. Evanilson looked toward the far corner at Tavernier’s cross.
On Wednesday night, Villa will play Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup (7:45 p.m. kickoff).
Ratings of players
Martinez, Emi
Martinez had to put in more effort at the conclusion of the second half after making some excellent stops to keep Dango Ouattara and Justin Kluivert out. He had a great dispersion. 7.
Matty Cash
After starting on the bench during Villa’s victory over Bologna in the middle of the week, Cash returned to the starting lineup. Alongside Konsa and Torres, he was playing a more subdued role rather than making too many moves. Against Semenyo, who was booked for diving late on, he faced a challenging challenge.
Konsa Ezri
After playing right-back in his previous four games across all competitions, Konsa moved to center-back alongside Torres. After Digne lost the ball high up, he ran on the counterattack and played outstanding defense against Dango. In the first half, Konsa had a good attempt on goal, but Travers deflected it over the crossbar. 7.
Torres Pau
Due to Torres’ initial struggles against Raul Jimenez in the victory against Fulham last Saturday, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola may have started Unal ahead of Evanilson for the Turkish forward’s physical profile. However, Torres made an impression tonight and played effectively against the large striker. In the 62nd minute, he hit a long-range shot into the top corner, forcing Travers to make a good save. 7.
Digne Lucas
Emery made four changes, including the return of Digne, despite Ian Maatsen’s outstanding performance against Bologna. As usual, he was a helpful outlet on the left. 6.
Onana Amadou
After receiving a booking in the first half, Onana was substituted out at halftime. Although he only won one of the four ground duels he contested in the first half, he came quite close to scoring. 6.
Tielemans, Youri
As he has been during the first two months of the season, Tielemans was excellent in possession. He helped Villa gain the upper hand and booked Kluivert early. 8.
McGinn, John
Following an outstanding first start following his recovery from a hamstring injury, McGinn maintained his spot in the squad. He will be devastated that his goal was disallowed by VAR and that he was unable to score in subsequent games. 7.
Ramsey, Jacob
Emery started Ramsey ahead of Bailey and placed McGinn on the right side because Bailey hasn’t been playing well lately. In the first half, Bournemouth had a hard time controlling him since he was so animated. After halftime, he was less productive. 7.
Morgan Rogers
After being set up by Watkins in the seventh minute, Rogers blasted the ball over the bar, but he was substituted for Duran in the second half and was not given another opportunity. We all know he is capable of making an impact, but he was unable to fully commit to the game. 6.
Watkins, Ollie
Watkins gave a selfless performance today. He had one sight of goal early on and then saw a header well-saved by Travers. Today, however, his work off the ball was crucial. 7.

Ian Maatsen (for Digne, 71′): Maatsen provided Villa with fresh left-wing energy. Villa’s goal was the result of his cross. 7.
After entering the game, Leon Bailey (for McGinn, 71′) contributed by nodding the ball down for Barkley to score. 7.
For Watkins, 82′, Boubacar Kamara: N/A
