In the upcoming weeks, Stoke City will benefit from the return of two summer acquisitions as Sam Gallagher and Bosun Lawal both accelerate their recuperations from injuries.
After a difficult start to life at Stoke due to injury issues, Narcis Pelach revealed this information in his press conference prior to Derby County.
After it was revealed in his physical that Lawal had played through a stress fracture in his lower back during the 2023–24 season for Fleetwood Town, the team he was loaned from Celtic to, he has not played at all for the Potters this season.
Gallagher, on the other hand, has only made three appearances in the Championship thus far due to two different problems; nevertheless, he did manage to score a goal and provide an assist in his first start against Portsmouth at the beginning of October.
Lawal and Gallagher will shortly return for Stoke.
Few people could have foreseen Lawal’s start at the bet365 Stadium, but the Potters had no choice but to gradually draw him back.
The gifted center-back, who can also play farther forward in a holding midfield role, is awaiting a scan to see if he can begin increasing the intensity of his training, Pelach added.
“Next up is Bosun Lawal, who is scheduled for a scan today,” he stated. This is a crucial day for us because, as we already know, he suffered a stress fracture in his back. The scan will provide us with further details, and hopefully we can begin moving him in the correct way and get him back on the grass by next week.
“It depends on the test so I can’t wait until this evening to know the outcome because we need him.”
“He’s a strong, physical player,” the Stoke manager went on. He’s a solid addition to the team, in my opinion. Although I didn’t know him previously, I’ve spent the last six weeks closely examining his past performances from the previous season.
“I am eager to have him available because I believe he is a player who can contribute significantly to our team. We’re hoping for some positive news this evening so we can begin bolstering him. It’s not just bringing him back; it’s also strengthening him because he missed some preseason.
Gallagher’s return will also be welcomed since he has made a huge effect in the games he has played in, but it has been quite frustrating that he has missed much of this season. He can, however, return to the squad during the international break and contribute significantly to the festive games.
After his return, Gallagher needs to figure out how to stay in shape.
Gallagher is far closer to rejoining the team than Lawal, who may be a while away from making his Potters debut. However, when he does, he needs to figure out how to avoid the treatment room.
He has already suffered two calf injuries this season, which will be quite upsetting for the forward, who has proven to be a positive influence on Tom Cannon.

His stint at Blackburn Rovers was marred by this problem, and Stoke were happy to take the risk for £1.5 million, which hasn’t paid off yet.
He still has plenty of time to resolve his current issues and resume playing regular football, where he can score the goals and provide assists that will propel Pelach’s team out of any possible relegation danger and into the top half of the standings.
