Wolves are still recovering from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Molineux. This loss marks the fifth time Wolves have been defeated this season in the Premier League, while Liverpool’s victory took them to the top of the table.
Wolves put in a decent effort but ultimately lacked urgency and creativity towards the end of the game. Although fans didn’t expect much from the match, there was frustration over allowing Liverpool to quickly regain control after Wolves’ equaliser.
After the game, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk offered some encouragement to Wolves. He emphasized that despite a tough start to the season, Wolves had some unlucky games where they could have secured points but didn’t. Van Dijk was quoted by *The Athletic* saying, “They’ve had a difficult start to the season but they have had some unlucky games where they could have got a result and didn’t, but they have to keep going.”
Wolves’ captain Mario Lemina appeared emotionally drained after the match. Lemina, a former teammate of van Dijk at Southampton, received praise from the Dutch defender, who acknowledged Lemina’s hard work and leadership. “He works very hard and he’s the captain and he wants good results for the club. He puts a lot of fight into the game,” van Dijk added.
Looking ahead, Wolves must turn their performances into points, starting with their upcoming match against Brentford. It’s a crucial game for manager Gary O’Neil, with fans expecting a win, especially given Brentford’s injury concerns.
