Luton Town held a 2-0 lead against Coventry City only to lose 3-2. Hatters boss Rob Edwards admitted that he felt as “bad” as he has ever felt in football after watching his team squander their lead and suffer defeat.
At halftime, Luton led by two goals thanks to Carlton Morris’s penalty and Elijah Adebayo’s finish, though they struggled to maintain control. Coventry continued to dominate and pulled one back through Ellis Simms’ header. Victor Torp then came off the bench to equalize with a brilliant curling shot. After Tom Holmes was sent off, Hadji Wright scored the winner in stoppage time, leaving Edwards visibly disappointed.
Edwards reflected, “Two-up away from home and we’ve lost the game. I feel as bad as I’ve probably ever felt in football right now. They put us under a lot of pressure. We had to defend well, and once we went 2-0 up, we needed to commit less to pressing, but ultimately we didn’t defend well enough.”
He added, “It’s on me, I own it. We lost the game 3-2, so no-one else to blame but me. The players are giving me everything, but we lost from a commanding position, and that’s on me.”
