‘I know what I want’ – Danny Rohl issues update amid Sheffield Wednesday contract rumours

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is clear on his plans for new contracts amid reports of planned talks with players.

Sheffield Wednesday are now looking to plan for the long term, with manager Danny Rohl aiming to lead a brighter future at Hillsborough. The club has often been plagued by uncertainty and mismanagement, but under Rohl’s leadership, there is growing confidence in a more stable future.

A key part of this planning is ensuring clarity over player contracts. In the past, the club has rushed to secure players before their deals expired, but Rohl and the team are aiming to be proactive. Reports indicate that new deals are being targeted for Akin Famewo and Pol Valentin, whose contracts are set to expire next summer.

Speaking to *The Star*, Rohl provided an update on contract discussions, emphasizing the importance of being clear and decisive. “We have some things in our mind,” he said. “We will start and we will see how quick we can agree things and how quick we can get deals done. What is important is that we have a clear picture, and I have a clear picture. I know what I want and what we need to bring the squad to the next level. This is the biggest key.”

Other players, such as Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer, Michael Smith, Marvin Johnson, Anthony Musaba, and Callum Palmer, also have contracts expiring in 2025, making this a potentially busy period for the club as they work to secure their key players.

While focusing on long-term stability, Rohl is also keen to find form in the Championship after a slow start to the 2024/25 campaign. Sheffield Wednesday have earned 11 points from their opening 10 games, leaving them in 18th place. Last weekend, they suffered a home defeat to promotion contenders Burnley. The team will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday night when they face Swansea City at home.
