Ipswich Defender Harry Clarke Sets Unwanted Premier League Record in 4-3 Defeat to Brentford

Ipswich Town suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Brentford in a dramatic Premier League match on Saturday. Harry Clarke, Ipswich’s defender, had a day to forget, as he became just the second player in Premier League history to score an own goal, concede a penalty, and receive a red card in the same game—a feat previously achieved only by Jan Bednarek in 2021.

Ipswich initially took a strong lead, with goals from Sam Szmodics and George Hirst putting them 2-0 up within the first 31 minutes. However, Brentford fought back, leveling the score before halftime through Yoane Wissa and an own goal from Clarke. Mbuemo’s second-half penalty then gave Brentford the lead.

Despite being down to 10 men following Clarke’s dismissal in the 69th minute, Ipswich managed to equalize with an 86th-minute goal from substitute Liam Delap. However, a 96th-minute strike from Bryan Mbuemo secured the win for Brentford, maintaining their impressive home form.
