Narcis Pelach spoke to the Stoke City squad at the start of their third consecutive three-game week to reinforce his belief in their goalscoring potential.
Pelach slammed the desk twice during his post-match press conference after a 2-0 victory at Blackburn to emphasize the need for a killer instinct in both boxes in the Championship. He believes this mentality is growing, thanks in part to the form of Viktor Johansson at one end and the forwards at the other, including Million Manhoef and Tom Cannon, who both scored in the game.
Goals have been a major issue for Stoke in recent years, but Pelach is confident that change is on the horizon as he looks around the dressing room.
He said: “Before the start of the week, we had a meeting about our potential in front of goal. I told the team I didn’t know exactly what they thought, but I would share what we, as a staff, believe. We have goals in us. There are many players capable of scoring. We need to be organized, but we will find a way to score one, two, or even three goals in a game.
“We have players who can do it, and we need to believe in that. Every time we have a chance, it needs to be [Pelach bangs twice on the desk] a problem for the opponent. I’m pleased we scored two; we could have perhaps scored another, but we are making progress.”
The win at Blackburn marked Pelach’s first away victory as head coach and Stoke’s first back-to-back league wins of the season.
Pelach added: “It’s good to get back-to-back wins, it’s good for building confidence—but it’s just one win. We now have an important game on Saturday, and we need to make sure we are at the top of
our game.”
