The Canaries have encountered some difficulties as a result of injuries to attacking midfield alternatives including Ashley Barnes, Christian Fassnacht, and Onel Hernandez.

There were several inexperienced players on their bench during their 1-1 draw with Leeds United, with Forson Amankwah, a summer acquisition, the only logical choice to start in place of any of the creative players.

Norwich is rumored to be searching the free agency market for viable solutions during this difficult moment. The most recent sources suggest that they might be nearing completion on a deal to enhance their roster.

According to Tipsbladet, Marcondes, the midfielder who won the championship and promoted to the Canaries, is getting close to signing a contract.

According to the Danish media, the move can be finalized as long as a few minor elements are resolved.

After three years with AFC Bournemouth, the 29-year-old Marcondes was let go this summer. After leaving Brentford, he was first signed by Scott Parker at the beginning of the 2021–2022 season.

The attacking midfielder would later assist the Cherries in returning to the Premier League, but once they achieved promotion, he grew less integral to the group.

Marcondes was trained by Johannes Hoff Thorup before to being hired as Norwich’s manager. In January 2023, he signed the player for FC Nordsjaelland on a loan from Bournemouth. The 29-year-old was most recently loaned to Hibernian of the Scottish Premiership.

In his fifteen appearances with Hibs, he started thirteen of them and scored three goals. In the Championship, he wasn’t most recognized for his ability to find the back of the net. His record in the English second tier indicates that he was particularly skilled at setting others up.

Although he was rumored to be moving to Carrow Road in the summer, Norwich chose to look into other possibilities. When Thorup spoke with Tipsbladet in September, he described Marcondes as a “interesting” player.

“Of course he will be interesting, but for the strategy we have laid out, he does not fit in 100%,” Thorup stated. “We have lowered the average age in our squad and starting lineup, while he would boost it.

“If we need to include anything that doesn’t quite fit into the plan, it has to be because we especially need it to support certain players or fill a gap in a position. However, he is undoubtedly fascinating and someone we constantly monitor.”

Gaining fitness will be essential for this move because he won’t be as match-ready as the other members of the City team. According to Pink Un, he has been working with Nordsjælland over the summer to maintain his best physical condition.

If Norwich does sign Marcondes, it will probably be for a brief period of time—until January, at which point they can evaluate their options.

Why wouldn’t you buy a player with experience in your level and whom your manager is already acquainted with, if you are a club facing a minor injury crisis and lacks choices in attacking midfield?

If he can perform consistently for one of their better teams in the top Scottish league, he should be able to fill a role in the Championship, even if it’s only temporary. If he did sign a short-term contract, all they would have to do is hope that his fitness improves rapidly enough for them to be able to use him fairly effectively.
