Not enough Sunderland fans are talking about ‘game-changer’ who dominated the stats vs Derby County

Sunderland claimed a routine 2-0 win over Derby County in the Championship on Tuesday, with several standout performers.

The win saw Sunderland return to the top of the Championship table after a solid display against Derby, who conceded either side of half-time. Jobe Bellingham scored a stunning goal from range, with Wilson Isidor doubling the Black Cats’ lead in the second half.

Romaine Mundle once again impressed with his confident and exciting play on the left, continuing to prove his value following Jack Clarke’s sale to Ipswich Town.

Regis Le Bris’ strong start as Sunderland manager continues, with the team securing six wins from their first eight Championship matches this season.

One player who has perhaps gone under the radar is Dennis Cirkin. The 22-year-old defender, who missed much of last season due to injury, has played every minute of Sunderland’s eight Championship fixtures so far, scoring one and assisting one. His return has provided balance and stability to the left side of the team, something Sunderland fans have noticed.

Against Derby County, Cirkin delivered a commanding performance. He made 14 defensive actions, including seven tackles—six more than any other player on the pitch. He also recorded the most touches (78) and completed the most duels (12 out of 20), further demonstrating his influence on the game.

Cirkin is rapidly becoming a valuable asset for Sunderland. Though he has attracted Premier League interest in the past, if he continues to perform at this level, it’s likely that interest will reignite.

Sunderland will be back in Championship action against Leeds United on Friday night.
