Alex Robertson will be treated as “just another opponent” when Portsmouth face Cardiff City on Tuesday night, according to Pompey boss John Mousinho. Robertson, who impressed during his loan spell at Portsmouth last season, chose to join Cardiff during the summer transfer window despite Portsmouth’s efforts to sign him permanently from Manchester City.
Robertson, 21, played a key role for Pompey last season but missed the second half of their League One title-winning campaign due to a hamstring injury. Mousinho acknowledged Robertson’s contributions but emphasized that Tuesday’s match is all about business, with Portsmouth focused on neutralizing his threats.
“Alex did a lot for us, but he’s just another opponent now. We need to do our best to nullify his impact and make things difficult for him and Cardiff,” Mousinho said. He expressed disappointment at not securing Robertson’s signature but stressed the need to move on.
Robertson has since made 10 appearances for Cardiff, scoring in their recent 5-0 victory over Plymouth. Despite the mutual respect, Mousinho made it clear that there’s no room for sentimentality when the two sides meet on the pitch.
