Darius Morris, a former guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, passed away at the age of 33.
The Lakers selected the native of Los Angeles in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft, giving him the opportunity to play for his home team.
Morris’s passing was revealed by his family in a statement to TMZ. “We announce with deep sorrow the demise of Darius Aaron Morris, our cherished son. In this period of change, his family kindly requests that you honor their requests for discretion and dignity.”

In a memorial to Morris, the Lakers said on X, “We are heartbroken by the passing of Darius Morris.”
Morris attended Michigan for three years after winning the Player of the Year award at John Wooden High School. Morris was a player for the Lakers from 2011 to 2013, spending two seasons and participating in 67 games.
Prior to the 2013–2014 season, Morris signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers following his tenure with the Lakers. Over the following two years, he had brief appearances for the Brooklyn Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. In the NBA, he had averages of 3.3 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per contest. Morris played professional basketball in China, France, and Russia in addition to the NBA.
