Sheffield Wednesday Manager Praises ‘Fantastic’ Goal That Adds to Portsmouth’s Championship Struggles

Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to defeat Portsmouth 2-1 at Fratton Park on Friday night. Manager Danny Rohl praised Michael Smith’s stunning goal, which sealed the win for the Owls after he had earlier assisted Josh Windass’ equalizer. Connor Ogilvie initially put Portsmouth ahead in the 44th minute, but Smith’s exceptional finish past Jordan Archer in the 70th minute ensured victory for Wednesday.

Rohl commended Smith’s performance and highlighted the team’s resilience, especially in the second half. “It was a fantastic goal to win it… maybe the goal of the week,” Rohl remarked. “The comeback was strong, and we showed big character in the second half.”

Despite the win, Rohl saw room for improvement, noting a late chance that could have led to a Portsmouth equalizer. “We should not forget they had a big chance for the equalizer,” Rohl said. “We can be happy, but we have to improve.”

The loss extends Portsmouth’s wait for a home victory this season. They’ll next face back-to-back away matches at Hull City and Plymouth Argyle before a home game against Preston North End ahead of the November international break.
