The greatest: Brighton CEO considers £378k-per-week star makes better than everyone else

On Thursday, the two sides will meet for the second time in the Premier League this season.

Ahead of this clash at the AMEX Stadium, Brighton’s CEO has expressed his thoughts on the Manchester club and what distinguishes them from some of the Premier League’s other great teams.

In a recent episode of Men In Blazers, Barber spoke about City and what distinguishes them from the other Premier League clubs.

He stated, “If I look back over the last seven years in the Premier League, we’ve beaten every one of those bigger clubs, almost every time, home and away.”

“We’ve beaten Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Manchester United more than once, both at home and away.

“From that perspective, it demonstrates that we are competing at the greatest level.

“We’ve beaten Manchester City once, but we always give them a good game, and they’re currently the best team in the world.”

“Liverpool and Arsenal are close, but City are unquestionably the finest team in the world, and they have the best coach.

“So for us to be able to go toe to toe with teams like that shows that that spirit and that culture and those strong values and that belief does give you a chance in professional sport, even if you don’t have the same quality squad or the same resources.”

Barber acknowledges Pep Guardiola’s excellence.

Since Pep Guardiola took over at the Etihad Stadium, City has won five Premier League crowns, two FA Cups, four League Cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

City has won 343, drew 57, and lost 65 of the 465 games overseen by the Spaniard.

After winning five titles in 2023, Guardiola, who earns £378k per week, was voted UEFA’s Best Men’s Coach.

Barber believes the City manager is the finest at what he does in world football, given his previous success with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Moving forward, everyone at the club will be hopeful that Guardiola can lead his team to another victory over the Seagulls and eventually win the Premier League trophy again next month.
