“No” is the Portsmouth expert’s forceful answer to a crucial query regarding the January transfer window at Fratton Park.

Pompey’s triumph over Preston North End and his better showings against Hull and Plymouth shouldn’t make it any less clear that squad surgery is still required in January.
According to Jordan Cross of The News, “glaring issues” inside John Mousinho’s Blues team still need to be addressed as soon as the transfer window opens.

On Saturday, Pompey defeated Paul Heckingbottom’s North End to earn their first home victory of the season, bringing the feel-good factor back to Fratton Park. The outcome came after significantly better away performances that weren’t always accompanied by victories the Blues deserved. Ahead of a break in the Championship schedule caused by international matches, Colby Bishop’s surprising comeback goal against the Lilywhites also gave them a big lift.

The Blues continue to be involved in a relegation dog fight at the bottom of the table, despite a much-needed uptick in positivity at PO4. That cannot and will not be forgotten, as Cross is adamant that Pompey’s position on what is necessary in January will not change.

During the most recent Pompey Talk program, which airs on Freeview channel 262, the Blues writer was questioned about whether recent advancements will obscure the transfer needs. Cross responded with a firm reply. “No, it doesn’t work for me; I need surgery.”

The team currently has obvious problems that need to be fixed in terms of experience and the challenges Pompey has faced this season. The same problems are present in many different fields.

Cross stated that while Pompey looks for answers to their current situation, every department is being examined. However, he identified one area that he would like to see addressed in the upcoming year by sporting director Rich Hughes.

“Every area is being examined closely,” he continued.

However, left-back is the one position that clearly has to be strengthened. Pompey needs a left-back, and they most likely need one to join them permanently.

From day one, Connor Ogilvie has faced tremendous hurdles and has stepped up to the level for the first time. I believe he has struggled at times.

It was fantastic to see Connor on the scoreboard on Saturday because I’m a big fan of his. However, I believe he has struggled with pace, and at this level, the pace has been scorching. At the championship level, players that get behind you don’t allow you back in again; they’re too fast, they’re gone, and it’s really difficult to handle.

Additionally, Connor has been a little slow to participate, most likely as a result of the challenges he has faced. Because Connor stands a little too far away out of fear of going in and then getting done, many crosses appear to come in from that flank without being closed off.

“Pompey looks very light there, which is obviously an area that needs strengthening, especially with Jacob Farrell’s injuries.”
