Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna. Sussex are poised to formally approach the newly promoted Championship team for the 38-year-old.
Brighton and Manchester United Enter Chelsea-Linked Coach Race
Manager of the Season McKenna operated as an assistant manager at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer until joining Ipswich Town in December 2021. He has now led the club to back-to-back promotions, making him one of England’s most promising young coaches.
Ipswich qualified for the Premier League by finishing second in the Championship, two points behind Leicester City. Despite not winning the trophy, McKenna was voted the Championship Manager of the Season for bringing the Tractor Boys to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.
In addition, the 38-year-old won the LMA Manager of the Year title against Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola.
Next Move for Kieran McKenna
McKenna has emerged as one of the key prospects to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has claimed the Blues have already told Ipswich Town of their interest. However, they are not the only club attempting to sign the in-demand boss.
Brighton are “confident” they can sign McKenna before Chelsea, according to the Times. The Seagulls are hunting for a new manager after revealing Roberto De Zerbi’s departure earlier this month.
Manchester United are also among the prospective destinations for the Ipswich Town manager. According to Manchester Evening News, McKenna is open to taking over at Old Trafford if the Red Devils opt to remove Erik ten Hag following the FA Cup final.
Brighton have been known to make astute transfer moves in recent times and its fans would be hoping that their next move for a manager would also be the same.
