**Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. Claims Maikel Garcia ‘Tried To Go Injure’ Anthony Volpe**
The benches cleared during the sixth inning of Game 4 of the American League Division Series after a controversial play at second base involving Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia and New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe. With Garcia on first base, Royals second baseman Michael Massey grounded into a double play. Garcia slid hard into second base, making contact with Volpe, who also appeared to hit Garcia with his forearm during the slide.
Garcia reacted to the play by confronting Volpe, which led to both teams emptying their dugouts and bullpens.
After the Yankees won the game 3-1 to advance to the American League Championship Series, Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. expressed his belief that Garcia “tried to go injure” Volpe. Chisholm remarked, “I just felt like he tried to go and injure Volpe because he was being a sore loser.” He noted Garcia’s comments on social media and emphasized that while he enjoys banter, he would never intentionally try to injure another player.
Chisholm was among the first to confront Garcia after the incident, exchanging words on the field. Both players had been vocal during the series, with Garcia making comments on social media following the Royals’ Game 2 victory and Chisholm responding by suggesting that Kansas City had been “lucky.”
Yankees manager Aaron Boone downplayed the incident, recalling the heated rivalry between the Yankees and Royals from the 1970s and 1980s. He suggested that any upset over the slide was exaggerated.
The Yankees will now await the winner of the upcoming Game 5 between the Cleveland Guardians and the Detroit Tigers.
